The Denver Broncos are 4-2 and enjoyed a mini bye week this weekend after their thrilling overtime victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. During this period, all the attention has been on quarterback Bo Nix and the struggling Denver Broncos offense, and rightfully so. However, the Broncos have another question they have to be thinking about, and it has to do with their secondary.
Both starting corners, Riley Moss and Ja’Quan McMillian, will be free
agents at the end of the season and, in all likelihood, the team will have to pick one or the other when it comes to re-signing them. We are currently entering Week 7 of the 2026 NFL season, and neither player has received an extension as of yet.
So, the question should be asked. Which corner should the Broncos sign to an extension or re-sign this offseason? I posed this question to our Twitter/X followers and received nearly 2,500 responses, most of which were in favor of re-signing cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian. A whopping 93.4% of the voters chose McMillian over Moss.
So now, I ask you, Mile High Report: as of right now, which Broncos cornerback should the Broncos re-sign? Riley Moss or Ja’Quan McMillian?
Based on the Broncos’ first 6 games of the season, McMillian seems like the better answer. Moss has been dealing with injuries, while McMillian has been very good once again and continues to make impact plays on the field. He had the game-ending sack vs. the Chargers a few weeks ago and had another clutch INT in overtime vs. the Seahawks, which led to the Broncos kicking the game-winning field goal. Also, we know about McMillian’s heroics in the postseason. He has that clutch gene and has become one of the better slot corners in the NFL.
Moss has been solid this season as well. He had an INT vs. the Jaguars, which helped spark their second-half comeback in the game, and has played well opposite Pat Surtain II. Unfortunately, he suffered a rib injury vs. the 49ers, missed the game vs. the Chargers, and was very limited vs. the Seahawks. However, when out there, he gives the Broncos a talented boundary cornerback who can match up against bigger, stronger, and faster wide receivers.
When making this decision, the Broncos need to factor in their young depth on the roster. Former first-round pick Jahdae Barron played 100% of the snaps vs. the Seahawks and played well, while reserve Kris Abrams-Draine also played very well and had an interception. If you let one of them walk, you have built-in replacements ready and waiting.
As for my opinion on this, I am going with Ja’Quan McMillian. This is not a knock on Riley Moss, who I believe is a very good player. It just comes down to what I believe is more valuable. Talented slot corners are not easy to find, and McMillian is one of the best in the NFL. Barron and Abrams-Draine have proven they can play outside and could step in and replace Moss. Also, it’s the impact plays. J-Mac has several clutch game-ending, game-changing, or game-winning plays throughout his career. I want that type of player in my secondary moving forward.
Now, I ask you, Mile High Report. When it comes down to Riley Moss and Ja’Quan McMillian, who do you want the Broncos to re-sign/extend?
