Ok, so congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs teammate of Georgia product Malik Herring on the news of being engaged to a recent podcast guest. Who says that podcasting is a niche hobby?
But here at Dawgsports.com, we’re here to provide a service for your water-cooler or Friday night tailgate talk.
Much like Taylor Swift, Georgia recently has picked up a ring, winning national titles in 2021 and 2022, of course.
Unlike Taylor Swift, however, the following SEC schools are among those that have yet to win a national
title in the last 15 years.
Tennessee
Florida
South Carolina
Mizzou
Texas
And just for measure, it’s been 35 years since Georgia Tech’s split-title season.
So as gameweek continues, there is one fact to dwell on. That the Georgia Bulldogs and Taylor Swift do in fact have something in common.
There’s lay-up storyline this week with Marshall coming to Athens given that after Glen Mason got cold feet, Jim Donnan made the move from Huntington, WV to Athens. But it goes beyond that for Georgia, as a low-ranking job of Georgia’s football staff helped Kirby Smart, who also played for Donnan, get his foot in the coaching door.
Smart recalled that time under Donnan with the media on Tuesday.
“I don’t know the specifics of how it went down. It was so long ago, it was around this time. The preseason was over in that year, which I don’t know. I got cut around this time and packed all my stuff up and drove back from Indianapolis. I came back to Athens, and didn’t really have a job or a plan. I was going to talk to some people about some finance jobs. He just called me in and said, ‘Look, I’ve got an administrative assistant.’ It’s not even a graduate assistant. Those were all filled, and they were already into the first game. They were in the second game. He said, ‘Look, you can be an administrative assistant, come in and work. We’ll put you to work, find a role for you, and you’ll help recruit.’ I didn’t have much going on, so I drove in and did it for the season. I think it was right until Y2K. It was ‘99 to 2000. I spent a year doing that, and I learned a lot about breaking down tape and just the things you have to do that are not the glorious things to do at coaching.”
There’s optimism for very good reason about Georgia’s receiving group. Truthfully, after last year’s up-and-down play at that position, any improvement is substantial, and all indications are that this position should thrive.
So it’s easy for another skill group to get glossed over. That’s where the running back position comes into play for Georgia, a stable of backs that goes well beyond Nate Frazier.
It’s inevitable that attrition will kick in as the season goes along, and with the added depth here, this is a position that should be as if not more must-see material as the receivers.

A really great event is being held Thursday night if you are near Athens, and best of all – proceeds support the Red & Black as Tony Barnhardt, Mark Schlabach, and David Pollack will talk some football ahead of the season.
