Isaac Allen: 5/10
Made one decent point blank save when he managed to get his arm onto a shot but caused defensive issues with some loose passing and touches around the box, giving away a penalty just after half time after a heavy touch.
Jenson Jones: 5/10
Had a mix up with Kindon for the opening goal, both leaving a loose ball to the other, allowing a Blackburn player to nip in and make it 1-0. Did get up the pitch well for Proctor’s goal, driving up the wing, getting into the box and laying it off for his teammate.
Ben Kindon: 5/10
Partly at fault for
the first goal, leaving a loose pass he made to Jones and then letting a Blackburn player get to it first. Improved following that, with Sunderland having most of the ball.
Joe Neild: 5/10
Passed the ball well from the back but another who wasn’t careful enough of the ball and some errors here and there led to half chance for Blackburn.
Archie Lightfoot: 6/10
Always keen to get forward and provide an option going forward and put in some decent crosses.
Liam Hunt: 7/10
Sat in front of the back four, allowing Browne to get forward. Protected the back four and was good at spreading the play.
Alan Browne: 6/10
Was having a good game, never giving the ball away and making intelligent runs up the pitch into space but then ruined it at the end with a couple of quick yellow cards at the death.
Felix Scott: 6/10
Had a good first half, where he should have got an assist but took too long to play in Angulo. Shifted to the right wing after the break and wasn’t involved as much until he switched back to the left late on.
Jack Whittaker: 7/10
Started on the right wing and put in a good shift down that side but looked much better when he went central following Hunt’s substitution. Forced a double save after being played in by Proctor and later curled an effort just wide.
Tom Proctor: 7/10
Scored a really good goal, taking a quick touch and whipping the bar into the far corner and played a lovely through ball to Whittaker for two quick fire efforts.
Juan Riquelme: 6/10
Came deep a few times to flick lay offs to teammates and had a chance to score when running alongside Scott, but the winger delayed a bit too long to play him and then sent him wide, with Angulo doing well to find the side netting from an acute angle. Mostly isolated though, with the ball rarely coming his way.
Substitutes
James Barker: 6/10
Came on at half time off the back of a four goal game for the u18s but like Angulo struggled to get involved, although did hit a first time effort from a Lightfoot cross just wide.
Charlie Dinsdale: 6/10
Replaced Hunt and went wide right, had to take a yellow for the team late on when Blackburn were on the counter.
Man of the Match: Tom Proctor
Buzzed around in front of the midfield, trying to make things happen all evening. Didn’t always make the right choice and was often forced backwards but can’t fault his effort. Did improve as the game went on, scoring with a well taken goal and then providing a gilt edged chance to Whittaker.
