With Barcelona hoping bring in one or two new, fresh faces for next season, either space needs to be made on the wage bill or a handful of players must be sold.
Assuming the latter scenario is the way to go, then the question has to be asked as to which players could be moved on either before or after the World Cup, and would their sales be agreeable to culers?
Ansu Fati looks set to complete a permanent move to Monaco shortly but there are likely to be other exits.
Let’s take a look at some of the
candidates…
Roony Bardghji
To be fair to Roony, he was bought as back-up to Lamine Yamal – a difficult job in itself – and a role that seems to be frustrating the youngster.
He spoke out about his lack of opportunities last season and Hansi Flick admitted there would be talks at the end of the season.
An exit looks increasingly likely this summer, and the only question seems to be whether he will be sold or go out on loan.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Another big summer awaits Marc-Andre ter Stegen as the goalkeeper once again does not appear to be in Barcelona’s plans for the 2026-27 season.
Joan Garcia is firmly established as Barcelona’s No. 1 and Wojciech Szczęsny looks set to continue as back-up. Hansi Flick also has to decide what to do with Inaki Pena who is returning from a season out on loan.
Ter Stegen’s exit will surely be a priority for Barcelona too, with the club eager to get his hefty salary off the wage bill.
The problem will once again be finding a destination, particularly given Ter Stegen’s recent injury problem. Girona’s relegation makes a return to the club look unlikely, although there’s talk Michel could go for Ter Stegen following his appointment as Ajax boss.
Ferran Torres
Ferran is a player who continues to divide opinion. He scored 21 goals in all competitions in 2025-26 but also went over two months without finding the back of the net earlier this year.
Throw in the fact that he’s now heading into the last 12 months of his contract, and Barcelona are desperately trying to sign a new striker, and a sale certainly makes some sort of sense.
But the feeling is that Torres is simply not interested in going anywhere and, with Robert Lewandowski having also left, it seems more likely he will stay and sign a new contract.
Ronald Araujo
Any sale of Ronald Araujo is going to be a contentious one, but Hansi Flick’s penchant for keeping him out of the starting XI of late speaks volumes.
The Uruguayan is a solid centre-back who can handle himself physically and a strong showing at World Cup 2026 may well attract admirers.
Given the emergence of Gerard Martin, the form of Eric Garcia, and the likely continuation of Andreas Christensen, the Catalans now have decent options alongside Pau Cubarsi, and that paves the way for a sale.
Marc Casado
More culer than the flagpole is how some describe Marc Casado at Barcelona and his love for the club is obvious. The midfielder has come all the way through the ranks and his celebrations with Barca fans on the city’s streets after the last two title wins were truly heart-warming.
Casado is another player who doesn’t want to leave but he will know deep down that if he does stay then he is set for another frustrating season on the sidelines.
The 22-year-old made a total of 34 appearances last season but with Marc Bernal growing in influence, Gavi fit and firing and Bernardo Silva potentially arriving – his time at Barca looks to be up.
Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde
The rumor mill believes that Barcelona will listen to offer for both players this summer after difficult seasons for the club during the 2025-26 campaign.
Balde lost his place to Joao Cancelo, who Barcelona are hoping to keep on a permanent deal, while Kounde struggled to find his best form throughout the campaign.
The Catalans also keep being linked with defenders – Joško Gvardiol is the latest name in the frame – but can surely only move if a current first-teamer moves on.
Neither player has shown any desire to leave (and Kounde has just said he wants to stay) but some difficult decisions may need to be made if offers do arrive in the summer transfer window.
