Tonight’s (Oct. 23) episode of SmackDown kicked off with an in-ring promo from WWE Champion Sami Zayn (accompanied by Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae). He had a lot on his mind after confronting World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns on this week’s Raw.
Zayn didn’t want to get wrapped up in the argument of whether the man makes the title or the title makes the man. No, the clarity that Sami gained after his chat with the OTC is that the true alpha male isn’t the one who is the biggest or strongest.
It’s the one who is the smartest and knows how to survive. That means the true alpha male of WWE is Sami Zayn.
That brought out Rey Fenix, who briefly spoke with Sami about Penta’s status as the Money in the Bank contract holder. But it was United States Champion Trick Williams who ultimately interrupted to dispute Sami’s status as the king of the jungle in WWE, before demanding a title match. Sami declined, reiterated that Trick doesn’t have “It,” and said Trick should fear for his life standing in the same ring as him.
This led to fists flying, and GM Nick Aldis booking a tag team match of Sami Zayn and Johnny Gargano vs. Trick Williams & Rey Fenix later in the night.
We’ll have to wait and see how that plays. But for now, how do you like Sami asserting himself as the alpha male of WWE? Do you agree with the Last Real Good Guy? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
