Although the draft ended without his name being called, Dax Dathe has found an opportunity as an undrafted free agent signing with the Toronto Blue Jays.
After transferring to LSU for his final season of eligibility, things did not go well for Dathe. He flashed promise very early, but control issues kept him from pitching more than 6.1 innings in his lone season in Baton Rouge. Those
innings came in 12 appearances with a 8.53 ERA, striking out 9 and issuing 12 free passes.
Dathe was solid at Angelo St for two years before heading to LSU, though. he posted a 17-5 record with an ERA of 4.00 in 157.2 innings of work. He struck out 208 hitters in those two years, walking 61 and hitting another 24.
With a load of experience under his belt, the Blue Jays will look to fine-tune his delivery and hope to cut down on the misses. The stuff has never been the problem.
Following the eight Tigers that were drafted over the weekend, Dathe becomes the ninth to be given an opportunity with a Major League organization.
