The Green Bay Packers don’t have an open roster spot on their practice squad for an American player, as they have a full 16-man practice squad at the moment, but the team did release international exemption kicker Mark McNamee from the practice squad earlier today
. So any American signing that the Packers make will need to come with a corresponding roster move, but they’re free to add an international player to the unit.Nonetheless, the Packers brought in a batch of edge defenders on Tuesday for
workouts. Interestingly, defensive end is a position where Green Bay might need some help, as the team just released Deslin Alexandre from the practice squad last week to make room for the addition of offensive lineman Brant Banks, who was waived from the Tennessee Titans’ 53-man roster. Without Alexandre, the only defensive end on the team is Arron Mosby, a special teams player who has played 3-4 outside linebacker and off-ball linebacker on top of 4-3 defensive end.
So it shouldn’t be surprising that Green Bay brought in Andrew Farmer, D.J. Johnson, Jah Joyner and Jeremiah Moon for a look on Tuesday, especially after Lukas Van Ness, a defensive end on the 53-man roster, was carted to the locker room with a foot injury on Sunday.
Andrew Farmer
Farmer is a former 3-4 outside linebacker who was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 as an undrafted free agent. He played college football at Lane College, a Division II program in Tennessee.
As a rookie, he was called up for eight games with the Chargers, playing 60 defensive snaps and 48 special teams snaps. In 2024, he was a member of the Denver Broncos’ practice squad, a team he was waived from on August 25th of this year.
Since being let go by the Chargers, he’s had workouts with the Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots and most recently the Tennessee Titans on September 12th.
D.J. Johnson
The biggest name on this list is Johnson, who was the 80th overall pick in the 2023 draft. He was a surprise reach on draft day, as he was ranked as just the 158th overall player on the consensus draft board that year.
Johnson will turn 27 years old next week, despite having spent only three years in the league. He was waived from the Carolina Panthers’ 53-man roster two weeks ago and has visited with the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and now the Packers since then.
Over his NFL career, he’s played in 31 games and made five starts on defense for the Panthers between the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Jah Joyner
Joyner is an undrafted rookie who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason. He was waived on August 25th, around the cutdown deadline. Since his stint in Las Vegas, the Golden Gophers product has worked out with the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns and now the Packers. Joyner was considered a draftable prospect in the 2025 class, ranking as the 190th overall player on the consensus board.
Jeremiah Moon
Moon was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022 by the Baltimore Ravens, mostly due to injury concerns. Because of injury issues, Moon only played 48 games over six seasons (eight games per year) with Florida at the college level. He was considered a borderline draftable player that class, coming in as the 273rd overall prospect on the consensus board.
He spent years being split between the Ravens’ 53-man roster and practice squad and was eventually claimed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. He was waived by Pittsburgh with an injury settlement back in August with a calf issue.
Overall, he’s played 210 regular-season snaps on defense and 364 snaps on special teams over 21 games between the Steelers and Ravens. Last year, he played 13 games for Pittsburgh. This appears to be Moon’s first workout since he was let go by the Steelers.
