The Seattle Seahawks may not have done any ceremonial passing of the torch with their 12 Flag raise on opening night against the New England Patriots, but this was nevertheless the start of the Khosla era of Seahawks ownership, and what a way to start.
What could’ve been a disastrous night for the Super Bowl champions after losing Sam Darnold on the first drive of the season turned into a 13-10 win in front of a raucous Lumen Field crowd. Drake Maye went from no sacks and no turnovers through three
quarters to taking three sacks and throwing three interceptions in the fourth quarter, including the game-clincher to Josh Jobe when they were comfortably in tying field goal range.
Vinod Khosla, the venture capitalist billionaire who bought the Seahawks for $9.612 billion, was in attendance after he and his family held an introductory press conference earlier in the day. As someone who admitted to becoming an NFL fan through the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers, then a fan (and minority stakeholder) of the San Francisco 49ers for several decades, this was Khosla’s first foray into Seahawks fandom as an owner.
I think Khosla can relate to every Seahawks fan after tweeting this out after the game.
Get used to it, Vinod. This is the Seahawks way no matter who’s on the field.
