The No. 8 Texas Longhorns are in dire need of a breakout game for the offense.
Preseason hype has fallen back to earth, torpedoed by the same thing that brought the expectations in the first place — quarterback Arch Manning. The former No. 1 recruit was a preseason Heisman favorite and expected to be the engine that made Texas go, but instead has been an anchor holding them back. Consistently poor play, attributed to his mental processes, has kept the offense from getting truly going and staying ahead
of the chains and stymying the offense.
However, with Sam Houston State coming to town, the offense should be able to stretch its legs and find its rhythm against a Bearkats defense that is giving up 38.7 points per game in its first three games of the year. The offense hasn’t fared much better, down to its third quarterback due to injury, managing just 21.7 points per game against Western Kentucky, UNLV, and Hawaii. So what happens when a stoppable force meets a movable object? We may get the answer on Saturday.
