Nationals fans, we need to get together here and make James Wood an All-Star starter. Yesterday it came out that Wood is not among the top 6 NL outfielders in All-Star voting. This is an absolute disgrace because he has been the best outfielder in all of baseball this year. Even the national media understands how absurd this is.
Right now, big market fans are running roughshod over the All-Star voting
process. Nationals fans need to fight fire with fire and vote every day, multiple times if you can. Make sure to vote for Wood and CJ Abrams, who is actually first among NL shortstops. Here is a LINK to vote for the festivities.
Make no mistake about it, James Wood will be an All-Star one way or another, but we need him starting. The Nats have had a massive turnaround this year, and the big slugger has been a huge part of making this team fun again. He is simultaneously a spark plug at the top of the lineup and one of the most fearsome sluggers in baseball.
You can see that in his numbers. Right now Wood leads NL outfielders in home runs, OBP, OPS, runs scored, walks and wRC+, among other stats. Simply put, he has been the best outfielder in the National League, and it is not that close. Do not let the casual big market fans rob our boy.
It is hard to say what else Wood really needs to do, so at the end of the day it is on us, not him. He is hitting .282 with a .415 OBP and .975 OPS. Those are the kinds of numbers Juan Soto was putting up before he got traded for a package that included James Wood.
It is not just the homers for Wood, especially lately. He has been hitting a bunch of singles and doubles the other way the last few weeks. As always, Wood is more than happy to take his walks. He is also a threat on the bases, with 13 steals. This is just an all around stud.
Right now there are guys who are not exactly all around superstars ahead of Wood in All-Star voting. Are we seriously going to let Teoscar Hernandez get more votes than the face of our franchise? Hernandez is not a bad player, but he is a solid starter, not a star. The only reason he is ahead of Wood is due to that Dodger blue. Ronald Acuna Jr. is not having a very good season, but he is ahead of Wood because casuals know who he is and Braves fans stuff the ballot.
We need to take a page out of their book and stuff the ballot for our guy. Nats fans also need to spread the word to fans around the league that we have a 6’6 superstar hiding in plain sight. With all the homers he has hit off other teams, you would think fans know who James Wood is by now. I guess we have to teach them, or Wood will teach them the hard way by crushing their favorite team.
The fan voting process is very silly, but the system is what it is. Right now, we cannot complain about that, we just need to vote. James Wood is on pace for 45 homers, over 100 RBI, nearly 150 runs scored and almost 30 steals. That is a historic season, but Dodgers fans are going to put Teoscar Hernandez in the All-Star game.
Nats nation, we simply cannot let that happen! This is a call to action, vote Wood early and often. The big man has given us so much joy this season and we need to return the favor. Get Wood into that top 6 so he can survive and advance! Let the world know that we have a superstar and his name is James Wood. He needs our help, so let’s repay him for all he has given to us this season.
