Nicholas Singleton’s career is not ending the way that anyone envisioned it.
Certainly not Singleton himself, who returned for his final year of eligibility with eyes on a title and the school’s record
book.
On Saturday, he moved into hallowed ground in that book in Penn State’s 27-24 loss to No. 2 Indiana, earning BSD MVP honors for the week.
Singleton, who scored three touchdowns, joins Saquon Barkley as the only Penn State player ever to score more than 50 touchdowns in his career.
More than that, Singleton looked like his old explosive self on Saturday, especially on a fourth-quarter burst where he showed his trademark speed and explosiveness. It set up a touchdown run of his own as Penn State pulled within 20-17.
On the next possession, it looked like Singleton would deliver the winning score in the upset bid. He took a short pass in the flat, used his blockers well, and raced to a score that gave the Lions the lead late in the fourth quarter.
For the game, Singleton had 10 carries for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 22 yards and the aforementioned score.
Others Considered
Wide Receiver Trebor Pena: The transfer had six catches for 99 yards, including a 43-yard grab in the first half that set up the Lions’ first score.
Safety King Mack: He had three tackles, but it was his interception that put Penn State in position to win the game in the fourth quarter. Mack was all over the field, especially in some blitz packages, and had his most impactful game of the year.
