Rumors for the Day:
- According to WrestleVotes, some people in WWE are “quietly expecting” tonight will be John Cena’s final appearance on SmackDown. It’s unlikely that one of the remaining dates on his farewell tour will be a SmackDown event.
- Fightful Select says Brock Lesnar is expected to be in the Chicago area for tonight’s episode of SmackDown.
- Regarding AJ Lee’s return to WWE, WrestleVotes Radio heard this isn’t the first time WWE tried to bring her in for an appearance since CM Punk returned to the company in November 2023. However, this is the first time WWE pushed for it in “such a big way,” because they think her return will create major buzz for their ESPN debut at Wrestlepalooza.
- Votes was also told that Tony D’Angelo’s name has been recently brought up in WWE creative, and some people think he’ll be called up to the main roster by the end of the year. It sounds like his mobster gimmick will mostly remain intact, though there may be some adjustments made to it.
- On The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki Bella said her Intercontinental title match against Becky Lynch was originally supposed to happen on an episode of WWE Raw. However, plans changed after Naomi’s pregnancy announcement, and a late decision was made to move their title match to the Clash in Paris PLE.
- Matt Riddle told TMZ’s Inside the Ring that he spoke to Eric Bischoff and will “probably” compete at one of Real American Freestyle’s future events.
- For whatever it’s worth, Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer believes that WWE and AEW are “probably in for a lot of record low ratings in the next three months.”
