The Pittsburgh Steelers received good news regarding an injury hampering one of their main offensive weapons. Running back Rico Dowdle left Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots with a toe injury.
Tests came back “relatively OK” on Dowdle’s toe after further evaluation, according to NFL Network and ESPN insider Ian Rapoport. Dowdle is considered day-to-day as the Steelers prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Dowdle was carted to the locker room in the first half. He briefly returned, but couldn’t
finish the game. Hecarried the ball seven times for 22 yards (3.1 yards per carry) and caught two passes for the same amount of yardage in the 20-3 loss to the Patriots.
He is only averaging 2.7 yards per carry through his first two games with the Steelers after back-to-back seasons of over 1,070 yards in Carolina. Dowdle played his first four seasons in Dallas under Mike McCarthy and outsnapped Jaylen Warren 39-25 in week one.
The Steelers prepare for their most difficult task yet, facing the 2-0 Bengals with an improved defense and healthy Joe Burrow in the first divisional game of the year.
