One week Illini kicker David Olano was the hero. The next week he is old reliable, hitting all five of his field goal attmepts in a 43-27 win over the Purdue Boilermakers.
The Big Ten was so impressed with this performance that they decided to give Olano his second consecutive Big Ten Special Teams Player of the week award.
Those five field goals were the most made
in a game by a Big Ten player this season and tied the Illinois record for field goals made in a game.
Olano is 11 for 12 on field goal attempts this season, and the one miss was actually a blocked kick.
He is tied for fifth in the country in total makes, and has scored the third most points in college football this season with 60.
His performance on the field this season has been stellar enough that his head coach Bret Bielema said on Monday that he had to call the Lou Groza Award, to get his kicker on the list.
This is the third time an Illini player has won special teams player of the week, after Hank Beatty earned the award after his week one performance.
