The Baltimore Ravens elevated offensive lineman Chuma Edoga and Kyle Hergel from their practice squad for Sunday night’s primetime matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
The moves indicate that guard Andrew Vorhees, who is listed as questionable with a foot injury suffered last Sunday, will not play. That would position 2024 third-round pick Emery Jones to start at right guard with rookie Vega Ioane at center for one more week until trade acquisition Cam Jurgens is ready to enter the starting lineup.
The Ravens signed Edoga, 29, at the beginning of September to add some much-needed tackle depth. His guard versatility has suddenly become relevant and likely contributed to his elevation for Sunday night’s game. Baltimore may also want a fourth tackle available in case Ronnie Stanley’s toe/ankle injuries flare up. If Edoga sees the field, it will be his first appearance of the season.
Hergel, who turned 27 years old this week, was signed after centers Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic went down in Week 3. He was elevated from the practice squad last week to serve as Ioane’s backup but did not play a single snap. He will occupy a similar role this week with the potential to play guard if needed, too.
The Ravens have elevated players from the practice squad only to deactivate them before the game twice this season. Edoga could be listed as a healthy scratch on the inactives list on Sunday evening if Vorhees is able to play.
