Morocco’s Prime Minister, Aziz Ajanuch, has publicly expressed his support for Brahim Díaz following the forward’s missed penalty in the Africa Cup of Nations final, emphasizing the player’s impact, commitment, and place in the hearts of the Moroccan people.
Speaking after the tournament, Ajanuch addressed Díaz directly, acknowledging how deeply affected the player was by the decisive moment in the final.
“I have a special message because I saw that Brahim Díaz was very affected,” Ajanuch said. “In
reality, he was the revelation of this tournament and the top goalscorer.”
The prime minister highlighted Díaz’s decision to commit to Morocco at international level, framing it as a moment that strengthened the bond between player and nation.
“He chose to join the national team and wear the Moroccan jersey,” Ajanuch said. “You didn’t just join the national team, you entered the hearts of all Moroccans.”
Ajanuch also placed the defeat in a broader sporting context, urging perspective after the disappointment of the final.
“Football has victories and defeats,” he said. “Luck was not on our side.”
Díaz played a key role in Morocco’s run to the AFCON final, emerging as one of the tournament’s standout performers. While his missed penalty which proved decisive, the public backing from Morocco’s prime minister adds to widespread support for the 26-year-old as he looks ahead with the national team and returns to Real Madrid.
