The 2026/27 Champions League season is up and running, and Bayern Munich is keen to win it as shown by their 5-0 win over Bodø/Glimt on the first matchday of the league phase. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain beat Slovan Bratislava 6-1, where Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick. Speaking after the game, the 26-year-old Spaniard gave his favorites to win the Champions League this season. “Barça, Madrid, us [PSG] and Bayern,” Torres said (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia).
As the reigning UCL holders
and having won it back-to-back, PSG has made a strong case to win it for a third consecutive time. Only Real Madrid has won the Champions League thrice in a row in the modern era (2016-2018) and once won five consecutive finals when it was known as the European Cup (1956-1960). Ajax and Bayern won three-peats one after the other in the 1970s (Ajax from 1971 to 1973, Bayern from 1974 to 1976).
Bayern is of course up there when it comes to contenders to win Ol’ Big Ears. Despite not having won it in six years, the Bavarians came close to winning it last season. This time around, Vincent Kompany and his men are hellbent on finally winning it this season.
