Even after the bye week, New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo is still dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered during the team’s Week 7 overtime win against the Houston Texans. Skattebo did not practice on Monday as the team returned to work.
Skattebo broke off a 42-yard run in overtime that helped the Giants pull out a win, but it came at a price, as he picked up a hamstring injury. Giants head coach John Harbaugh spoke about Skattebo’s injury in more detail.
“It’s going to be probably day
to day up to the game,” Harbaugh said. ”We’re going to just have to see where we’re at. I’ll probably have more information toward the end of the week. We’ll see on both those guys where we’re at.“
Skattebo has had an up-and-down season for the Giants. He scored a touchdown in the team’s Week 1 win against the Dallas Cowboys, but struggled to find the end zone in the next four weeks. He also recorded four fumbles in the team’s first five games.
His struggles led to him being benched in the team’s Week 6 loss against the New Orleans Saints, but he redeemed himself against the Texans when he had his best game of the season. He ran 17 times for 124 yards and a touchdown to help the Giants pull out a big win on the road.
Skattebo likely will have a big role when the team plays the Philadelphia Eagles this week if he is able to go.
Should Skattebo have to sit out, it will mean an extended opportunity for Devin Singletary and newly-signed Gregory Desrosiers. Eric Gray, who was just signed to the practice squad, and Phil Mafah are running backs who would be available for elevation.
