If you’ve read our website long enough, you’d know that we don’t really do the whole “box score” thing when talking about individual games — the goal is to tell the story of the game, not list out a bunch of numbers and let you fill in the blanks.
I just need to list out a bunch of numbers real quick…
The Boston Red Sox were swept by the Toronto Blue Jays this week at Fenway Park, scoring just four total runs, leaving 27 runners on base, going 1-for-28 with in scoring position, and wasting three quality
starts from the starting rotation.
AND THEY EVEN HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO WIN THE FINAL GAME OF THE SERIES!!!
Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Caleb Durbin went back-to-back to tie the game in the eighth inning, sending a wave of momentum throughout the ballpark. Aroldis Chapman came on to try and hold onto that tie, only to concede the go-ahead run on two pop-ups — one of which should have ended the inning — and a wall-ball double.
Gross.
STUDS
Nope.
DUDS
All of ‘em.
“THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR BELIEVING” MOMENT OF THE GAME
It’s math, folks. The Red Sox don’t win games that they once trailed by at least two runs.
