Needless to say, this is an extremely tough draw for Real Madrid, with big teams like City and Liverpool, and very tough away game in Athens and tricky matches against Juventus or Benfica.
While the Group Stage isn’t as crucial as it was
before UEFA decided to change the Champions League’s format, it’s still a demanding set of games which will require the best from Xabi Alonso’s team. It will not be easy for Alonso to implement his coaching style while playing two big games every single week, but on the other hand it will also give him the opportunity to use the depth at his disposal in order to keep his players engaged.
