A first clean sheet of the season and third-straight multiple goal game could not have arrived at a better time for Carrick, who has also prevailed in nine of his 10 Premier League home matches in his second spell and is aiming to become the first Man Utd manager in 113 years to win both of their opening Manchester derbies in the league.
Luke Shaw was a notable absentee from the Man Utd squad against Sabah, but Carrick revealed in an update that the Englishman’s absence was only due to the bout of cramp he suffered at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Shaw should therefore be given the green light to start what will be his 300th Premier League game, but Carlos Baleba (ankle), Matthijs de Ligt (back), Manuel Ugarte (knee), Tom Heaton (hamstring) and Amad Diallo (ankle) are unavailable.
