Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will get a chance to shed some rust off before taking the field for Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Charter side coach John Harbaugh said that Harbaugh will play “about six to nine plays” in the team’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.
“Just want it to be crisp and clean,” Harbaugh said via the team’s website. “We got several things that we were working on offensively and we want to see those show up. We want to see improvement.
Everybody doing what they’re supposed to do.”
He later added: “It’s never perfect, but you want to see that level of crispness and execution, that’s what you want to see the most.”
Herbert struggled in his limited action during the team’s 41-17 loss against the San Francisco 49ers last week. He completed just one of his two attempts for nine yards as the offense went three and out on their opening drive.
It’s clear after the team’s bad loss against the Niners that they want to go into the regular season with a little bit more momentum. Playing briefly during the game against the Rams should help them get closer to that goal.
The Chargers don’t want to overwork their starters because there is a chance of injury, but they also want to make sure they are in the best position possible to succeed right out of the gate.
Kickoff between the Rams and Chargers is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. PT inside SoFi Stadium.
