In a new interview with TMZ’s Inside the Ring, WWE star Ethan Page said trusting wrestlers backstage today is “probably safer” than “back in the day.” This quickly turned into a tangent where Page said today’s wrestlers are softer, and there is no better proof of it than their reactions to fans on social media.
“Wrestlers get upset when fans tweet them. They’re responding! What are you responding to fans for? What the hell? Why don’t you respond to the ones that compliment you? Only the ones that hurt
your feelings that tell you the truth, are you giving them attention.”
Even though Ethan’s moniker is “All Ego,” he says he actually has the smallest ego in WWE. He’s just the only person who is willing to be honest in a business that is all about being inauthentic and telling lies.
“No one wants to hear the truth, know the truth, understand the truth…In wrestling it runs rampant. No one wants authenticity. No one wants genuine, honest, nothing. Ever. I have the smallest ego in all of the WWE. I’m just the only one that wears it on my sleeve…Everyone else in WWE is a liar.”
Page continued his argument by claiming that everyone else is only in WWE for the money. The fans are the ones who spend that money, so the wrestlers lie to their faces to take it from them.
“How are you going to get this money from the customer? You manipulate them. You manipulate them! Look, if I want to be the most loved guy in WWE, you give me three weeks, and I’ll figure it out. It’s manipulation.
…I’m not trying to make people love me, is my point. I’m not here to sell t-shirts. I’m here for my childhood fantasy of becoming the Intercontinental champion, then going on to becoming world champion, universal champion, Royal Rumble winner, King of the Ring winner, all that stuff. I’m gonna do all that stuff. That’s why I’m here.
Everyone else is here for [money], and to get [their faces] put on billboards. It’s a very vain and ego-driven, ironically, and money. Money is big. They’re gonna lie to you to sell t-shirts. They’re gonna lie to you to sell action figures. They’re gonna lie to you to sell tickets. Everyone here is a liar, but me.”
Do you think “All Ego” Ethan Page is telling the truth, or is he just as big of a liar as everyone else in WWE? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
