Bayern Munich head into the international break with another three points in the bag after grinding out a 2-1 victory over Mainz. It has been a pretty impressive stretch for the Bavarians, who have shown they can overwhelm opponents with their attacking quality, stand toe-to-toe with Europe’s best, and find ways to win even when things do not go according to plan. The victories over Atlético Madrid and Mainz offered two very different challenges, but Bayern managed to come away with the results in both
matches.
There is certainly plenty to like about what Vincent Kompany has built, but there are also questions about squad depth, injuries, and whether this team can maintain its current level throughout the season. More importantly, are Bayern Munich genuinely looking like Champions League favorites, or is there still another gear they need to find?
