Eagles rookie progress reports at the end of training camp – PhillyVoice Unfortunately, throughout camp Eli Stowers hasn’t shown much to get excited about as a receiver or as a blocker. He has not exhibited the explosive traits that are in his body, he has sometimes looked tentative as a blocker, and he simply hasn’t made catches further than, like, 10 yards down the field. The guess here is that Stowers is swimming mentally, trying to learn an offense
while acclimating to the speed of the NFL. He’s thinking, and not just playing. The hope is that in time he will catch up mentally and begin playing fast. But for now, Stowers is unplayable, and likely to be a gameday inactive. He is also currently on the shelf with a hamstring injury. I’ve been asked if Stowers could potentially be a “redshirt” IR candidate, but I don’t see that. The team used a valuable second-round draft resource on him, so they’re going to want to give him every opportunity to get better during the season. If he’s on IR, he won’t be able to practice with the team. Maybe the light will come on for Stowers at some point during the season, but I think the more realistic hope is that he’s a positive contributor in 2027 and beyond.

Let’s talk Riq Woolen! Well, we’ve already mentioned him. But just wanted to stress that he had a strong night with the two picks. As we said last week, it’s not always going to be pretty with him. He will be frustrating at times. But while there might be some low lows, there will also be pretty high highs. He’s a playmaker and a net positive.

The offense was a mixed bag. There were plenty of mistakes made by a variety of players. Hurts threw the INTs. There were some dropped passes. The blocking was erratic with Lane out. We know the offense is going to have ups and downs as they get used to the new system and there are new players learning to play together. I’m more encouraged by what went right than discouraged by what went wrong. Mistakes can be fixed. It is good for the players to get a taste of success and to see what things look like when they do execute properly. We also have to remember that the offense is going up against one of the best defenses in the league. That isn’t an easy group to learn against.

Not that it should necessarily be a surprise. Lampkin’s football story is about suspending disbelief and acknowledging exceptions to prototypes. Somebody his size is not supposed to play offensive line the way he does until you accept that he can — and he does. “What is he as a football player?” asked LeCharles Bentley, a two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman and Lampkin’s performance coach, by phone this week. “Well, he has incredible balance, elite-level strength, extremely explosive, and a very high-level skill ability where you just watch him play the game. So if I just think through and say, ‘Well, what is it that as a football player you need, as an offensive lineman, as a guard, as a center, what do you need?’ All the things that you actually need, he checked those boxes. … He understands how to organize his body from a skill perspective to play the game.” […] “All the things that you believe about him as a player … all these things that matter,” Bentley said. “So the limitation was going to be his height. Got it. But as a center, as a guard, is that really something that’s going to remove his ability to play football, because if I look at him in comparison to just to, say, a guard at 6-3 or a center that’s 6-3, well, Willie’s gonna test off the charts in comparison to that player’s strength level, that player’s explosion, certainly that player’s balance in his ability to organize his body and express skill. So technically, he’s a better football player. He’s just not 6-3. So how is that going to limit his ability to play the position and play the game? It doesn’t.”
Eagles’ Nolan Smith healthy as he enters important season of career – NBCSP
Nolan Smith is finally completely healthy this summer. That’s a good start to his season. Smith, the former first-round pick from Georgia, tore his triceps in Super Bowl LIX and somehow still managed to finish the game in February of 2025. And then last season, he was limited to just 12 games because he aggravated that triceps injury. “I had a full year to re-heal,” Smith said on Tuesday, “and I’m ready to go.” That’s good news. Because not only is this an important year in Smith’s career, but his role in the Eagles’ defense is looking more integral with every day Jonathan Greenard continues to miss. The Eagles’ biggest move this offseason came when they pulled off a trade for Greenard and gave him a four-year extension worth nearly $100 million. But Greenard injured his pec lifting at the team facility before training camp and has been on the Active/PUP list all summer. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said he’s concerned Greenard won’t be ready for the season opener.
Gov. Josh Shapiro reiterates that the Eagles’ home of the future will ‘be in the city of Philadelphia’ – Inquirer
Shapiro on Tuesday reiterated what he told The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane on the unCovering the Birds podcast in April. “I appreciate the way [team president] Don [Smolenski] and Jeffrey and the entire franchise are thinking really critically about what they want for the future of a home for the Philadelphia Eagles,” Shapiro said Tuesday. “Here’s what I can tell you for sure: It’s going to be in the city of Philadelphia, and we’ll work with the Eagles once they determine what it is they’re interested in doing, but I appreciate the thoughtful and deliberate approach that they’ve taken to this process.” The Eagles are at Lincoln Financial Field until 2032 under their current lease agreement. But the team has begun what Lurie called “exploratory research” on a new or renovated stadium. Last year, the organization sent out surveys to season-ticket holders to seek input on the prospects of a stadium renovation or a new building. It is similar to what the Eagles did before they moved from Veterans Stadium to Lincoln Financial Field in 2003.

Will the Eagles give Makai Lemon some game action? Don’t yet know if he will play or not, but wide receiver Makai Lemon practiced all week and could see his first preseason action if the coaching staff feels he has a need to get acclimated. The first-round draft pick has worked hard in his rehab from a hamstring injury and says he is confident with the way he is feeling and his understanding of the system. He’s in a ramp-up period, for sure, but the Eagles also want to be smart and bring him along to get ready for the regular season. We will see how the coaches handle his situation. “There are always opportunities to get better,” Sirianni said of the work Lemon has been putting in while injured. “Obviously, the best way to get better at football is to practice football. That’s why we’re excited that he’s out there, but there’s things that you’re able to accomplish even when you aren’t practicing.
2026 NFL Preseason Week 2 rookie grades: David Bailey logs sack; No. 4 pick Carnell Tate still quiet – NFL.com
Markel Bell started strong against New England, moving OLB Gabe Jacas out of the hole with his upper body and then throwing his fellow rookie to the ground. The third-round pick got out of his stance quickly for a 6-foot-9 behemoth. He generated a push on zone runs, including on a third-and-1 late in the first quarter. Pass rushers were unable to win outside because of Bell’s length. However, his height can be an issue for him in the leverage battle, as OLB Jesse Luketa showed on a second-down tackle for loss where he stayed low to shed the big man’s block.
TE Dae’Quan Wright’s story takes another turn; may not be done with Browns, NFL after all – Dawgs By Nature
For a player who went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft and was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles before being claimed by the Cleveland Browns, TE Dae’Quan Wright has become a big name in the story of football. While one of our astute readers was very excited when the Browns claimed Wright, his odds of making the team’s initial 53-man roster were low, but the lack of depth at his position might have helped. Instead, Wright was a part of a lawsuit that deemed he could return to college, despite another legal ruling seemingly stopping that, and was waived by Cleveland to make a “history” making move to LSU possible. On Tuesday, Wright cleared waivers and was set to join Lane Kiffin’s Tigers. As the immortal Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast, my friends.“ The SEC joined the Big 10 in passing a policy that would lead to LSU receiving penalties if they had Wright, or any other player who met the three provisions of the policy, on their roster:
Broncos sign OLB Ron Stone Jr. and waived WR Hakeem Butler – Mile High Report
To make room for the signing, they waived another former UFL star in [former Eagles] wide receiver Hakeem Butler after a pretty rough outing on several chances in last week’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. His jump ball abilities looked good on paper, but he didn’t quite pan out during the preseason.
Cowboys insider predicts veteran not on team will make roster – Blogging The Boys
Archer is among the most plugged-in Cowboys insiders on the beat so when he says something like this we should listen. The four that he has on the team make sense, Devin Moore hasn’t popped but he is a draft pick, but that TBD is interesting. If you are curious, this is the only position in which Archer provided this caveat across his roster prediction. This doesn’t necessarily mean that corner is the most likely place in which the Cowboys could bring in external help, but it certainly underscores what we have all known for a while in that this is an area of concern. Commanders free agency: Washington adds former Pro Bowl left tackle – Hogs Haven
That thinned Washington’s depth at the position, which D.J. Humphries was signed to fortify. He has the experience and savvy to do so, with 101 starts in 108 NFL games. He played eight seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, who made him the No. 24 overall NFL draft pick in 2015. While he has primarily worked at left tackle, he has experience on the right. He earned a Pro Bowl honor following the 2021 campaign. Humphries suffered a torn ACL late in the 2023 season, and was later released by Arizona with a failed physical designation. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs late in the 2024 season, after being cleared. He also worked for the L.A. Rams in 2025. Humphries offers an upgrade at swing tackle, even if he doesn’t locate pre-injury form. He’ll have a few days to merge into the Commanders system, but it would be a shock if a signing like this doesn’t make the initial 53-man roster and have time to acclimate and find a role in the offensive front.
Calvin Austin injury: Giants’ WR done for season with torn ACL – Big Blue View
New York Giants wide receiver Calvin Austin III tore his ACL, per a report from Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. Austin tore his ACL in a non-contact injury suffered in practice on Tuesday. The injury is a definite blow to the Giants offense, speedy slot receiver had been having a great camp. Austin quickly developed a rapport with QB Jaxson Dart and emerged as one of Dart’s favorite targets in practice. He was also emerging as one of the Giants’ most explosive options, with his 4.3 speed and agility giving opposing defenders fits.

The NFL has fully adopted the NBA model of having special uniforms for rivalry matchups, with the AFC South and NFC North being added to the list. Some of these really hit the mark and feel iconic, while others … exist. Nothing is truly ugly this year, but some of the uniforms are meant to evoke their cities yet end up feeling like hollow knockoffs of other teams. Let’s dive in and rank the eight new uniforms from worst to best, as well as note when they’ll be wearing them.
Predicting NFL teams most likely to decline in 2026 season – ESPN
All of this adds up to a universe in which Bears fans get some of what they want in 2026 without having everything go right. I wouldn’t be shocked if Williams takes another step forward and the offense follows in kind. With real concerns about the defense and a guarantee that the Bears won’t be quite as lucky with turnovers and special teams work late in games, though, I’m not sure even an improved offense can get Chicago to 11 wins this season.
