Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is expected to draw significant attention this summer, with Manchester United leading the race to land him as the natural successor to Casemiro.
So much so that, according to CaughtOffside, Manchester United have already made “informal contact” with the Brazil international, identifying him as an ideal midfield reinforcement and a plug-and-play option to fill the hole opened by Casemiro’s expected exit.
The report states that sources close to the agents within
the football industry believe the Red Devils view Guimaraes as one of their main targets, with an offer in the region of £80 million under consideration.
Last time I checked, Newcastle were definitely not willing to sell Bruno for less than £100 million, so we’ll see how Manchester react to the likely news of receiving a solid ‘no’ in response from the Tyneside organization.
Guimaraes, 28, has become central to Eddie Howe’s side since arriving in 2022, vastly surpassing even the most gaudy of expectations. Bruno’s turned into a maestro dictating the team’s tempo from the initial third, and he’s taken on increasing leadership responsibilities within the squad since his arrival.
Despite the mounting interest, Newcastle are obviously not actively seeking Bruno’s sale, and the report says that the Magpies are actually engaged in discussions over a contract extension, basically to reinforce their belief in Bruno and secure him for the long term while warding off potential bidders.
Obviously, Bruno remains under contract, and Newcastle have consistently emphasized their desire to retain core players rather than sell them each passing summer, even after the Alexander Isak debacle.
