Tom Bischof finally earned a chance to play for the German national football team, being called up by new head coach Jürgen Klopp. In addition, he will also captain the U-21s before making the jump to join the older players.
“Tom will be in the second group with us [third and fourth game],” Klopp explained (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “In the first group, he’ll be with the U-21s as their captain. That has also been agreed with Vincent Kompany. He doesn’t play three games every week either,
so he’ll play with the U21s first and then join up with us.”
As revealed in the squad announcement, “Group 2” or the third and fourth games of the international break will see Germany play against Serbia and the return match against Greece. The U-21s will play Latvia and Malta away before hosting Georgia. Therefore, Bischof is expected to be the captain of the team against Latvia and Malta and miss the match against Georgia.
