We’ve arrived at our final destination.
The long, arduous 2025 campaign has reached its final stop. The Rockies’ final series begins tonight, with the first of three games against their rival San Francisco
Giants.
The Giants are likely still feeling the sting from having recently been eliminated from playoff contention, and will look to end the season on a high note in front of their home crowd. Trevor McDonald (0-0, 3.38 ERA) gets the start in front of the San Fran faithful, making just his third appearance and second start of the season.
McDonald’s prior outing was solid, in that he allowed just one run in six innings against the NL West Champion Dodgers. The Giants’ #17 prospect will look for similar results against a Rockies offense that has struggled immensely on the road. This will be McDonald’s first career outing against the Rox.
Even though Colorado has nothing on the line in terms of postseason aspirations, they’ve got an important objective for Friday’s game – end the Rockies tenure of Germán Márquez with a win. Márquez (3-15, 6.49 ERA) has had a very rough 2025 season, and is set to become a free agent in just a few short days. It seems unlikely that he’ll re-enter the fold, so it would be a nice highlight on the year to allow the franchise’s all-time strikeout leader to walk away with a final win.
His last start against the Giants didn’t end very well (four runs in five innings), but his most recent outing against the LA Angels was one of his strongest of the year (two runs in seven frames), so hopefully Márquez can ride that positive momentum into a deserved triumphant last appearance tonight.
Blaine Crim will bat third for the Rockies as he rides a nine-game hitting streak into San Francisco. He’ll look to ignite an offense that’s managed to slash just .250/.282/.532 in four games at Oracle Park, the last three of which have been losses. Colorado has been outscored 22-10 in those four contests.
