Schalke 04 head coach Miron Muslić had every reason to be proud of his team’s performance against Bayern Munich.
The newly promoted side produced a disciplined, determined display at the Veltins-Arena, holding the defending Bundesliga champions to a 0-0 draw and securing a point that felt much bigger than just one result. It was Schalke’s first point against Bayern since 2017, ending Bayern’s run of 10 consecutive victories in this matchup.
For Muslić, however, the result was not simply about Bayern
failing to finish their chances. It was about his players executing a plan that demanded concentration, physicality and plenty of sacrifice.
“For me, FC Bayern is the best team in the world, I have to say that very clearly. There’s no bigger compliment to my team than keeping a clean sheet against Bayern. We had a good match plan and executed it well. This mentality, this attitude, this willingness to suffer, and at the same time, this resilience — we had all of that today, so we deserved the point,” Muslić said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Bayern Munich dominated possession and registered 15 shots, but Schalke goalkeeper Loris Karius was outstanding when called upon, making several crucial saves to keep the Bavarians off the scoresheet.
For a newly promoted team facing arguably its biggest test of the season, Muslić’s Schalke passed with flying colors.
