Last week, the Kansas City Chiefs’ 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders had a bittersweet moment in the fourth quarter when wide receiver Tyquan Thornton dislocated his ankle after a crucial catch-and-run. The tackle by Raiders defensive back Treydan Stukes appeared to be a hip-drop tackle, but the NFL didn’t see it that way.

Raiders’ Treydan Stukes not fined for tackle on Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton injury | FOX4
Las Vegas Raiders safety Treydan Stokes will not be fined for his tackle on Tyquan Thornton during the play he got injured.
There were some complaints of Stokes using a hip-drop tackle on the play, but the league deemed the tackle legal.
The play happened with under four minutes in the fourth quarter when Patrick Mahomes found Thornton on a 55-yard bomb on the left side of the field then Stukes brought Thornton from behind.
Chiefs’ Pass-Rush Unit Could Return a Sneaky Weapon From Injury Soon | Sports Illustrated
Omarr Norman-Lott Eligible to Return Next Week
It’s been almost a full year since Norman-Lott suffered the injury. Barring any setbacks, it shouldn’t be too long before we see him active again. Of course, every ACL tear is different, and not everyone can make a nine-month return like Patrick Mahomes did.
Head coach Andy Reid alluded to Norman-Lott “potentially” returning after the bye in late September. It was the first positive injury update the Chiefs had received on him in quite some time.
Will Chiefs Trade for Marvin Harrison Jr.? New Report Reveals Where They Stand | Heavy Sports
Tyquan Thornton is out at least until January and Rashee Rice is hurting, so who catches Patrick Mahomes’ passes before the Nov. 10 deadline?
“Chiefs and Colts are not trading for Harrison,” Wilson wrote on his social media channels Saturday. The Houston Texans lead the chase instead. Trade talks with the Arizona Cardinals center on a 2028 second-round pick, though nothing is final and Arizona wants more bidders, according to Wilson’s earlier report.

Sources: Cardinals finalizing deal to trade WR Marvin Harrison Jr. | ESPN
One team that has had talks with Arizona is Houston, which has been, and is thought to be, squarely in the mix for Harrison, sources told Schefter and Rapoport. If Harrison is traded to the Texans, he would be reunited with his college quarterback C.J. Stroud.
The Indianapolis Colts are not involved in talks for Harrison, a source told ESPN’s Stephen Holder. The Cardinals were asking for a second-round choice and more, according to a source, for the son of Marvin Harrison Sr., the Hall of Famer who owns multiple Indianapolis receiving records.
Titans, Dolphins lead race for No. 1 pick in 2027 NFL Draft four games into season | The Athletic
The Tennessee Titans (0-4) have the best odds, with a 38 percent chance of picking first. The Miami Dolphins (0-4) are second with a 34 percent chance.
The Los Angeles Chargers (0-4) have the third-best odds, though a big gap separates them from the frontrunners. The Chargers have a 7 percent chance of making the top pick. The New York Jets (1-3) and Arizona Cardinals (1-3) close out the top five with 5 and 4 percent odds of picking first, respectively.
2026 NFL Coach of the Year candidates at quarter mark: Raiders’ Klint Kubiak headlines my top five | NFL.com
1. Klint Kubiak – Las Vegas Raiders
The Silver and Black are back in the mix as playoff contenders because Kubiak has elevated the squad with better discipline and greater attention to detail. Although the Raiders’ roster is littered with holes, the 3-1 team plays outstanding complementary football, with the offense, defense and special teams working together to produce wins.

Looking at advanced stats behind the Chiefs’ hot start
The Chiefs are currently running about 40% of their offensive plays from under center (up from about 18% in 2025). Walker’s addition is also allowing Mahomes to reach a career-high 33% play-action percentage on passing plays. The only other time Mahomes exceeded 30% as a starter was in 2018, when he played most of the season with second-year running back Kareem Hunt.
One curiosity of the start is the usage of rookie running back Emmett Johnson. With only five receptions (on five targets), Johnson already has a cumulative 5.8 receiving EPA. Because of a -3.6-yard average depth of target, Johnson has been credited with 92 yards after the catch while officially having 74 receiving yards for the year. Reid and his staff should prioritize unlocking Johnson’s potential in the screen game in the weeks ahead.
