We are just moments away from the Tar Heels squaring off against Louisville in what will begin a three-game home stretch. UNC will not have to hop on a plane again until the ACC Tournament, and they will not have to leave the state of North Carolina again until potentially the NCAA Tournament. There’s a trip to Durham thrown in there to end the season, but we don’t need to talk about that just yet.
The good news for Hubert Davis is that Henri Veesaar is listed as probable, so at least for now the
Heels don’t have to deal with missing their two best players again. Veesaar looked pretty good against Syracuse, but it did seem like it took him a little while to really get going. They will need him to have a strong interior presence against a Louisville team that averages 86.8 points per game. The entire team will have to be sharp on defense, truly, or things will turn ugly quickly.
Another thing to keep an eye on during this game is whether or not Derek Dixon has a better outing than he has lately. Drops in production for freshman guards during the season aren’t uncommon, but Davis really needs his starting point guard to be the best version he can be in this one. Much like the Veesaar thing, the need for offensive sharpness really applies to the entire team, but Dixon having a bounce back game would go a long way in helping the Tar heels come away with a victory.
If you were unable to make it to the Dean Dome on a school night, feel free to hang out with us in the comments section. As always, we will be back after the game with post-game analysis and takes. Until then, Go Heels!
