Newcastle United turns its attention to the EFL Cup on Wednesday, with West Bromwich Albion visiting St James’ Park for a second-round matchup.
Matthias Jaissle’s side enters the competition after opening its Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, as the Magpies will be looking to begin another cup run after lifting this trophy in 2025.
Jaissle will use the occasion to make changes and give opportunities to some of the players who did not start against Liverpool. Meanwhile, West
Brom arrives on Tyneside having won all three of its competitive games this season, including a 4-1 victory over Rotherham in the first round of the EFL Cup.
There is no room for error tonight, with the winner advancing directly to the third round and the loser seeing its cup campaign come to an immediate end.
