Day 16 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Wednesday, August 19. The team is eagerly awaiting their joint practice session tomorrow with the Buffalo Bills.
Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report – Day 16 (8/19/26)
1. Blown Over: Before practice, head coach Todd Monken talked about why he ended practice early yesterday (after the contact to RB Quinshon Judkins). He said he didn’t think it was anything malicious, but he had just seen enough and wanted to emphasize that they Browns need to remember to protect their own as opposed to being extra physical.
Monken also brought up a story of when he worked under Freddie Kitchens in 2019, and Kitchens had the team ready or almost looking for fights in joint practices against the Colts. He understands that tensions run high in joint practices, but they likely played another role in practice ending early yesterday — to try to hammer home the point of practicing smart in tomorrow’s joing practice with the Bills.
2. Ripped Away: The stats will show two interceptions thrown on the day by QB Deshaun Watson, who was working with the second-team offense. But I’m not sure how much you can fault Watson for this interception. CB Tre Avery had his back to the ball, and the throw appeared to drop right into the basket of WR Tylan Wallace, before it bounced into the fortunate arms of Avery.
3. On the Other Hand: S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren continues to flash his recovery speed, as he broke up but missed intercepting this pass in the corner of the end zone from QB Deshaun Watson:
4. Coats Does It Again: What an incredible couple of days for CB Michael Coats. I often don’t highlight 7-on-7 plays, since I feel they’re a bit too easy for offenses to execute, but Coats intercepted this rolling pass from QB Deshaun Watson near the sideline:
Lane Adkins of The OBR makes it sound like Coats had gained real stream prior to everyone else catching on the past few days:
5. One-Minute Drill: QB Shedeur Sanders got off to a nice start in one-minute drills with this throw to WR Denzel Boston:
The script was that the offense was down by 2 points, so they needed to get into field goal range for a victory. Unfortunately, in a hurry-up, Sanders spiked the ball with six seconds left. Not everyone was set, though, so that resulted in a 10-second runoff and the end of the game.
6. Watson Gets Contact: For QB Deshaun Watson’s one-minute drill, he tried to find TE Carsen Ryan deep, but CB Michael Coats was flagged for pass interference. That helped set up a 36-yard field goal for the win.
7. Brownies: RB Quinshon Judkins did not practice. … Monken said that he expects to have the entire starting offensive line ready for Thursday’s joint practice. … DE Alex Wright and TE Carsen Ryan returned to practice. … DE Isaiah McGuire did not practice after exiting early yesterday. … DE Jared Verse had the day off in team drills. …
8. Up Next: The Browns will practice on Thursday, August 20 at 1:15 pm. It will be a joint practice with the Buffalo Bills.
