The Guardians snagged a right-handed reliever from a division foe today as they selected right-handed pitcher Peyton Pallette in the first round of the Rule 5 draft today.
Some things jump out about Pallette immediately- he had a 12/4 K/BB/9 last year. He allowed only a 33% hard-hit rate. He’s only 6’1 and (surprisingly!) not known for great extension. The big issue for him seems to be if he can locate his curveball. If the Guardians can help him do that, he should be a solid set-up man. He had a 3.43
FIP in 64 innings for the White Sox in Triple-A. He sits around 96 mph with his fastball but can get it up to 98 mph.

You have to like the Guardians chances of maximizing pitchers, so hard to dislike this move. Now, if the Guardians can add 1-2 major league relievers, some minor league deal-type starters AND AT LEAST ONE MAJOR LEAGUE BAT, this offseason will be feeling pretty good.
