Women’s Soccer (5-2-1)
After a tough 1-0 loss to Virginia, the women’s soccer team answered with back-t0-back shutout wins, defeating Liberty 3-0 and Maryland 4-0.
All three of Penn State’s goals against Liberty came in the second half. Riley Gleason had two assists in the match, helping the Lions improve to 4-2-1 against one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country.
Penn State won its 12th straight game against Maryland to open conference play. The Nittany Lions held a whopping 27-8 margin in total shots,
including 9-1 in shots on goal. Aubrey Kulpa was dominant, recording two goals and three assists, and Kaitlyn MacBean added two goals of her own in the second half.
Penn State will continue conference play against Nebraska next Thursday (6pm on BTN).
Women’s Volleyball (4-3)
After a crushing 3-0 defeat against No. 3 Kentucky on Friday, the women’s volleyball team answered with sweeps over New Hampshire and Bucknell.
Addie Lyon had 26 assists against New Hampshire, as she continued to get comfortable in her new role as the starting setter following Izzy Starck’s decision to step away from the team for the season. Emmi Sellman had 11 kills in just two sets of action, and Caroline Jurevicius added eight kills.
Gillian Grimes had 14 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Bucknell, helping the Nittany Lions hold the Bison to just 0.086 hitting percentage. Maggie Mendelson and Alexis Ewing each added 9 kills.
Penn State will take on Pitt next Wednesday (7pm on BTN).
Field Hockey (2-1)
The field hockey team won a pair of overtime thrillers at home, defeating Delaware 3-2 and Saint Joseph’s 2-1.
Ella Jennes was the hero against Delaware, scoring an unassisted goal in the second overtime to lift the Nittany Lions to a win in their home opener. Penn State never trailed in the game and held a strong territorial advantage after the first quarter.
Freshman Olivia Marthins scored her first goal of the season in overtime to give Penn State a 2-1 win over No. 9 Saint Joseph’s. The Nittany Lions recorded their first win over a ranked team so far in the 2025 season.
Penn State continues its homestand with games against Bucknell today (6pm on Big Ten Plus) and against Kent State on Sunday (Noon on Big Ten Plus).
Men’s Soccer (2-2-1)
The men’s soccer team won 5-0 against Mercyhurst last Friday to pick up its second win of the season.
Caden Grabfelder opened the scoring late in the first half, which set up the Lions for a 4-0 scoring avalanche in the second half. Penn State had five different goal scorers in the contest, finally showcasing some scoring depth on offense after struggling to put together a consistent attack in the first four games. Samuel Ovesen, Morgan Marshall, Malick Daouda, and Matiwos Rumley each scored a goal in the second half to help Penn State run away from Mercyhurst.
Penn State opens Big Ten play tonight against Rutgers (7pm on Big Ten Plus).
