Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis is officially cancelled following the filing of a graphic lawsuit that alleged Davis assaulted his ex-girlfriend numerous times. Paul is now searching for a new opponent for a different
date, but it won’t be Nate Diaz.
For once, that’s not because Diaz didn’t accept the fight. According to Paul in a comment on social media, Diaz was one of the only people to step up and say yes to a short-notice fight.
“Nate Diaz is a f—ing G.” Paul wrote under one of Most Valuable Promotion’s Instagram posts on the Davis fight cancellation. “It isn’t meant to be, but respect for willing to step up on two weeks notice. So many p—ies at the top of this sport with excuses.”
Diaz and Paul already boxed each other back in August 2023, with Paul winning a one-sided decision with 98–91, 98-91, and 97–92 scores. Diaz would blame the performance on an injured shoulder, and then bragged about going on a “four week bender” before the fight.
After shrugging off the first fight, we’re not surprised he’d be willing to step up for a second one. Diaz was happy enough to cash that paycheck and coast through one Paul fight. Why wouldn’t he do the same in the second?
Unfortunately for Nate, his performance was just too lukewarm for anyone to get excited about a potential rematch against Paul. Jake needs something spectacular to come together or Netflix isn’t likely to pay Paul’s promotion a hefty paycheck for broadcast rights.
With many saying ‘nah’ — including Francis Ngannou, who says the offer was a financial joke — Paul may not be able to find a dance partner, even with Most Valuable Promotions looking to move the fight to mid-December.
