No. 13-seed Indiana women’s basketball bowed out of the Big Ten Tournament in the second round on Thursday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, falling 83-59 to No. 5-seed Ohio State.
The Hoosiers earned the right to advance with a hard fought 72-69 comeback win against Nebraska on Wednesday, but the Buckeyes proved far too much. Indiana combined to shoot just 19-59 from the field, good for 33.3%, and just 5-21 from 3-point range. Combine that with losing the rebounding battle 45-33 and you have
the makings of a blowout loss.
The Hoosiers made a late push to qualify for tournament play as the regular season drew to a close, stringing together wins against Oregon, Rutgers and Penn State in their final three games. It was an interesting season between Shay Ciezki’s star turn and an almost entirely new roster full of young talent. Indiana will look to return to the program’s standard in the future with a highly rated recruiting class on the way.
