There was a time when the NFL and college football schedules would overlap for most of the start of the season. Now, with Week 0 and NIL running wild in college-ish sports, and the NFL moving the schedule in whatever way they see fit, including a Wednesday night game to open the season, the schedules are not so intertwined.
For the Cleveland Browns, Week 1 of the NFL season brings them down to Jacksonville, Florida, to take on the Jaguars, followed by another trip to Florida in Week 2 versus the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers.
For the Ohio State Buckeyes, Week 2 of their season sees a huge matchup with the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night. The eyes of the football world will be upon the game due to the importance of the matchup between the top-ranked Buckeyes and the fourth-ranked Longhorns.
NFL draft prospects, starting with QB Arch Manning, will be all over the field, which will create even more attention from the pro level. Given the timing of the game, a night contest in Austin, GM Andrew Berry will not be in attendance to watch one of the assumed top quarterbacks in the 2027 NFL draft.
As Berry noted while being interviewed on ESPN Cleveland, he will be with his Browns team in Jacksonville instead. Berry said that he tries to make it out to a number of college games per year, but his priority is with the team he has put together already.
That doesn’t mean Cleveland’s front office and scouting department won’t be in attendance, but the man in charge of both of those will not.
