Lennart Karl has burst onto the scene for Bayern Munich this season, making the most of the chances he’s been given by Vincent Kompany during Jamal Musiala’s long injury absence. So far this season, the 17-year-old
phenom has already tallied seven goals and two assists from a total of twenty-seven appearances across all competitions. The social media comparisons he’s already drawn to that of Lionel Messi and Musiala are antiquated by the adage that he’s his own player, but it’s hard not to get excited about what his future could hold with the evidence on display.
As things currently stand, because Karl has a contract at Bayern that will automatically extend to 2029 once he tuns 18 at the end of February. Right now, he earns roughly €1-2m per year, but there are already internal talks about an extension beyond 2029.
Per information from Sport Bild’s Christian Falk and Tobias Altschäffl (via @iMiaSanMia_GER), Bayern would like to extend Karl’s contract through 2031, and they are remaining relaxed about the situation. Internally at Bayern, the Real Madrid comment Karl made at his fan club visit at the beginning of the year was not seen as inflammatory as it was by a majority of fans across social media and they know he is fully focus on Bayern right now as they push across three fronts.
Additionally, Bayern would like to try to have a contract extension for Karl done before this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, much like they plan to do with Harry Kane. There is currently no rush and Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are currently spearheading efforts to get new deals over the line for Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry in addition to Kane and Karl. Eberl had also stated that there were already positive talks with Michael Ballack, who is Karl’s agent, earlier this month, adding to how relaxed Bayern is currently remaining over the youngster’s situation.
