Fresh off a dominating 18-7 win over the Los Angeles Queens on Thursday night, the New York Heights will play their final regular season game of the inaugural Women’s Pro Baseball League tonight when the San Francisco Firebells.
The Firebells, who have already locked up the No. 1 seed in the postseason, are in first place at 9-4, while the Heights and Queens are tied for second at 7-7 and Boston is bringing up the rear at 4-9.
Tonight will also be the last day for WPBL home run leader Denae Benites to add to her season count of 11. She hit two on Thursday night. She’ll have to contend with San Francisco’s Kelsie Whitmore, who is close behind at 10. While neither Benites or Whitmore are focused on the home run chase, it is fun for fans.
Speaking of fans, the first 250 to enter tonight’s game at Robin Roberts Stadium will get a Benites bobblehead.
