The Indianapolis Colts made roster moves at quarterback yesterday, except it didn’t involve 4th-year quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr., who remains on the trade block following his earlier offseason trade request.
Rather, Indianapolis announced it signed backup quarterback Easton Stick, while waiving fellow quarterback Seth Henigan in a corresponding roster move.
The Colts also signed free agent offensive lineman Josh Kreutz and cornerback Jai’Onte’ Milligan while waiving cornerback Wyett Ekeler and offensive guard
LaDarius Henderson.
Regarding Stick, the 2019 5th round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers, was a former 4x FCS National Champion and First-Team All-American for North Dakota State. He also has spent time with the Atlanta Falcons organization, where he was last season.
The 30-year-old veteran quarterback has appeared in 6 career games, making 4 starts. However, he has not appeared in an NFL game since 2023 with the Chargers.
In his 8-year playing career, the 6’1,“ 224 pound Stick has completed 111 of 174 pass attempts (63.8%) for 1,129 total passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, and an interception.
He’s currently the 4th quarterback behind Daniel Jones, Anthony Richardson Sr., and Riley Leonard on the Colts depth chart at the position, It’ll be interesting to see if the Colts view him as more than an offseason, camp, and preseason arm to get through the weeks of practicing and training during the upcoming summer.
Otherwise, Kreutz is an interesting name. He appeared in 53 collegiate games, making 37 starts for Illinois. He started 12 games at center for the Fighting Illini last season as a team captain. He earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors in both 2023 and 2024.
Of course, some football fans may recognize that last name from his famous father Olin Kreutz, who was a longtime NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowl center for the Chicago Bears. Olin figures to be a continued strong candidate to eventually be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He has been training with Colts returning right guard Matt Goncalves during offseason training, who’s ‘bulked up’ and is hoping to improve his play along the interior:
