Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is looking at Borussia Mönchengladbach and not seeing any reason to think the match will be a cakewalk.
The manager is nowhere close to saying that the Bundesliga race is over even as his team holds an 11-point lead with 10 games to play.
“We’ve had an 11-point lead before and we know how quickly that can change. We only focus on our performance and our wins – I looked at the table once after the game against Dortmund, and it looked good. But after that, only Gladbach
matters; it sounds like a cliché, but for me it’s a way of life,” Kompany stated (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
As far as injuries go, the news that Harry Kane is out hit fans like a ton of bricks. When asked about the status of Manuel Neuer, Kompany offered a short response: “Manu is fit.”
Kompany said that the staff is constantly monitoring the players.
“If I assess the situation objectively, there are perhaps two players who have less rhythm because we’ve had fewer games. That will change again in the next three or four weeks. I’m not worried about the fitness of our boys. They are ready, we’ve prepared ourselves mentally for the upcoming run of midweek fixtures plus the national team games – and we’re looking forward to it. It’s more work for me as a coach, but it also makes things easier because the boys know their moments will come. We’ve come to where we are today, and the confidence is just as high as before,” Kompany said.
