Rico Verhoeven is far less experienced than Oleksandr Usyk when it comes to boxing, but he’ll be the bigger man in the ring when they meet in Egypt.
At Friday’s official weigh-ins for Saturday’s Glory in Giza boxing event, Verhoeven weighed in at 258.7 pounds for the heavyweight main event, over 25 pounds heavier than Usyk (233.3). Usyk’s WBC heavyweight title is on the line.

Usyk (24-0) being the smaller fighter at the scale is no surprise given that he rose to
prominence as a cruiserweight before moving up to heavyweight and scoring legacy-defining victories over Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois. In his most recent outing in July 2025, Usyk defeated Dubois via fifth-round knockout to retain his status as boxing’s No. 1 heavyweight, a status he claimed with consecutive wins over Fury, an opponent who had an even bigger weight advantage over Usyk than Verhoeven.
The longest-reigning champion in Glory Kickboxing history, Verhoeven (1-0) competes in his first boxing bout since 2014. Verhoeven was successful in his lone boxing bout, scoring a second-round knockout over Janos Finfera in a four-round bout, but is more famously known for being one of the greatest kickboxers of his generation. He reigned as Glory’s kickboxing champion for over 11 years, defeating Artem Vakhitov in his most recent title defense this past June before parting ways with the promotion as a free agent.
Verhoeven now looks to add to his unassailable legacy with an upset win against arguably the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.
