Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano is one of the premier defenders in European football. Having arrived from RB Leipzig as a young 22-year old, Upa has matured into a solid rock for the team. Currently mentored by Vincent Kompany, Upa feels the former defender’s experience and expertise have been very helpful to his improvement.
Speaking to Le Parisien ( as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Upamecano stated the influence of Kompany as a player and as a coach. “We all watched him when we were young; he was a legend
for Belgium and Manchester City. He was a very aggressive defender in duels, a leader on the pitch too, a good role model for me. He’s helping me a lot; we do a lot of video sessions, he talks to me about my positioning. Things are always very intense with him” he said.
Being in the final year of his contract, Upamecano’s options on the table could be several. However, at Bayern he has the additional factor of training under Kompany and honing his skill to a higher level of perfection.
