SEATTLE — The Illini battled for the sweep, taking all of the sets by only 11 combined points Friday night against Washington in Seattle.
Senior setter Kenna Phelan has no doubt been a difference-maker. Phelan put up 36 assists in the match, and had a season-high 16 digs. Phelan was everywhere on the court, but the chemistry with junior middle Kristina Starostenko, won the Illini the first set. Starostenko tallied six kills in the first alone.
However, it was a team effort for the Illini, who had three
players with double-digit kills. Outside and opposite hitters, Paityn Chapman and Alyssa Aguayo joined Starostenko with 1o kills each.
Illinois’ defense did not falter either. As a team the Illini posted 71 digs in the contest, led by Chapman with 17, tying her career-high. Eight team blocks also contributed to the Illini’s victory.
Looking Ahead
The team looks to finish their Pacific Northwest road-trip with another ranked victory over No. 17 Oregon on Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.
The Illini improve to 11-3 (3-0 Big Ten), remain undefeated in conference play, and extend their winning streak to 7.
