VfB Stuttgart is making quite the statement in the early days of the Jürgen Klopp era with four players reportedly receiving call-ups to the German national team for the upcoming international fixtures per Sport Bild’s Julian Agardi (via @iMiaSanMia).
The group includes Finn Jeltsch, Josha Vagnoman, Chris Führich, and Maximilian Mittelstädt, giving Stuttgart solid representation if true. The selections also underline how much attention Klopp has been paying to the club since taking over Germany. Klopp was
in Stuttgart earlier this month as the team defeated Köln 4-1, a match that provided plenty of material for the new Germany boss.
For Jeltsch, the call-up represents another significant step in the 20-year-old’s rapid development. He has established himself as an important part of Stuttgart’s defense and is one of the younger players in Klopp’s wider talent pool.
Vagnoman brings versatility and international experience, while Mittelstädt offers another established option at full-back. Führich provides Klopp with a different dimension in attack and already has experience with the senior national team.
The four Stuttgart selections are particularly notable because Klopp is beginning his Germany tenure with an expanded evaluation process, reportedly considering a larger squad than usual to assess as many players as possible during the international break.
For Stuttgart, four Germany call-ups are another indication that the club’s player development is producing talent worthy of the national team spotlight.
Of course, some will note the players not selected, including high-scoring attacker Deniz Undav and German national team mainstay Jamie Leweling, who were not included in the report. One other notable name not listed is midfielder Angelo Stiller, who is battling a bone bruise / knee contusion, which he sustained vs. Hoffenheim last weekend.
