Ajax manager Michel has had to defend goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen from criticism this week after the Barcelona loanee was likened to a Madame Tussauds statue by journalists.
The comment was made after a 1-1 draw with Nijmegen at the weekend which led to some awkward exchanges in the post-match press conference.
Michel was asked about Ter Stegen by a journalist who said: “The goalkeeper keeps standing there without making any move… It has started to feel somewhat like the museum here in the city…
Madame Tussauds Museum.”
The Ajax boss was quick to respond saying: “I don’t agree with you describing him as a statue.”
Ter Stegen moved to Ajax in the summer to be reunited with Michel after a spell together at Girona that was cut short by injury.
The Germany goalkeeper has made seven Eredivisie appearances so far for his new club but the team currently sit down in fifth place, five points behind leaders Feyenoord.
