We’re in the thick of the Champions League group stage. After Wednesday’s games, only two more matches are left before we find out where Spurs stand heading into the next round of play. But before then let’s take a quick – and I mean very quick – look at some of the other matches that took place on Wednesday:
- Copenhagen 3-2 Villareal
- Ajax 4-2 Qarabag
- Leverkusen 2-2 Newcastle
- City 2-1 Real Madrid
- Benefica 2-0 Napoli
- Arsenal 3-0 Club Brugge
- Athletic Club 0-0 PSG
- Juventus 2-0 Pafos
- Dortmund 2-2 Bodo/Glimt
Those results mean Tottenham currently sit 11th in the table with two matches two play. They need some help to get one of the first eight slots, but it’s not entirely out of their hands.
First
is a home game against Dortmund on January 20, and then a trip to Frankfurt a week later.
It’s almost assured Spurs will have at least a play-in match to reach the next round, but automatically advancing to it would be so much better. All that will, of course, not matter if they lose to Dortmund (who currently sit 10th) next month.
