Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt has officially left Lexington after spending the weekend visiting Kentucky, and the transfer portal chess match is now coming into clearer focus.
Leavitt never made his expected trip to Texas Tech, a notable development as the Red Raiders are now widely expected to land former Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby, according to Pete Nakos of On3.
Adding to that, Leavitt will now visit LSU and may now be the Tigers’ top QB target, barring another major
transfer portal entry.
The former Arizona State standout is the No. 1-ranked quarterback in the transfer portal and remains one of the most coveted players available. Kentucky remains firmly in the mix after hosting Leavitt for an extended visit, but the Wildcats could face stiff competition if SEC powers fully engage.
LSU’s head coach, Lane Kiffin, will be armed with NIL resources and a quarterback-friendly system, which looms as a potential factor, while Miami and Oregon have also been mentioned in the Leavitt sweepstakes, per Nakos of On3.
For Kentucky, this recruitment represents a pivotal moment for new head coach Will Stein. The Wildcats have positioned themselves well, but whether Stein did enough during Leavitt’s visit to secure his first marquee portal signing remains to be seen.
With Texas Tech now off the board, the final stretch of the race should be underway.
