Welcome back to the transfer portal team of the week! This is our first true weekly edition of the basketball season, with the top 15 transfers of the week being honored.
The format will be a little different
than the football counterpart, with only one player being in the spotlight each week. The full “Team of the Week” will feature the top three performing transfers at all five positions. Repeats are absolutely allowed for the full lineup, but the spotlight will be on a new player in each edition.
1/14-1/20 Spotlight: Brian Moore Jr.
Born and raised in Harlem, Brian Moore Jr. has had to scrap and claw for every opportunity. After flying under the radar out of high school, he spent his first year of college at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. He proved himself immediately, earning JUCO All-American honors, which led to his first Division I landing spot at Murray State.
During his two years with the Racers, Moore started roughly 40% of the time, averaging 8.6 points per game on respectable efficiency. He entered the transfer portal following their 12–20 finish in 2024 and decided on perennial MEAC powerhouse Norfolk State. A change of scenery was all Moore needed to break out, as he posted career-high marks of 18.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists for the Spartans. He won the Lou Henson Award, given to the top mid-major player in the country, and was also named Most Outstanding Player of the MEAC Tournament. Following their loss to eventual national champion Florida in the Round of 64, Moore re-entered the transfer portal as one of the best scorers in the country. He likely could have jumped to the Power Four, but instead opted to join Grand Canyon as they entered the Mountain West ahead of the 2025–2026 season.
Since joining the ’Lopes, Moore has been a consistent, veteran presence in the backcourt. He is tied for the team lead with 2.4 assists per game and has been arguably their most consistent shooter. He has had no problem letting teammates Jaden Henley or Nana Owusu-Anane take some of the spotlight, but in Grand Canyon’s biggest test of the season against No. 23 Utah State, it was Moore who stole the show. Dropping a season-high 20 points and four assists, the Harlem native dictated the pace of the game and carved up the Aggies, leading the ’Lopes to their biggest win since joining the Mountain West. “The Havocs” rushed the floor after the final buzzer sounded, securing a landmark moment for the program. Sitting at 5–2 in conference play, Moore and Grand Canyon look to be wasting no time as they try to ascend to the top of the conference in their debut season.
